after the first nine boards
So far so good. After the first nine hands, USA1 is up 31 to 5 (add to that South Africa’s 9-imp carryover, for a real score of 31 to 14).

on to the semis
Barry Rigal called it the biggest upset in Bermuda Bowl history last night, when South Africa beat Italy to advance to today’s semi-final match against USA1. Much will be written about that match, I’ll leave the erudite analysis to the expert players and commentators. Instead, I’ll reiterate my favorite point: opponent-picking is baaaaad business.
