the harder they fall
Let me tell you about it now, while the disappointment is fresh: failing to make the cut the first day feels perfectly awful. We were down 14 to Lynne Schaeffer’s team after eight and gave them four more in the second half to find ourselves all dressed up today with nowhere to go.
I don’t study bracket sheets or look ahead to possible future matchups or otherwise engage in behavior that might seem like chicken counting — anything can happen, and it usually does. I entered this event with the best team I’ve ever been able to assemble and it was aggravating to fail so fast. I blew off a bit of steam in the first little while after it was over, but my enthusiasm for wallowing waned quickly; I took a sleeping pill and that was the end of it.
It’s sad but not devastating. We’re going to play a few days of getting-better-acquainted KOs and start building some rapport for the next time, when the best I’ll be able to hope for is two full days together.

A tough beat in a tough competition.
You are sure to do well in the KOs and I’m sure we’ll join you there in a day or two.

Keep your perspective, Stace. If this happened to Kate or Joanna, you would say, “You did your best and that’s what matters.”
In bridge, as in so many other games, luck plays a huge part in the outcome… the right deal vs the right opponents on the right day is all that matters.
To experience the highs of winning, you risk the lows of losing…
Chalk it up to experience and go forward.
XOXOXO!!

Suzi is exactly right.
Bob Hamman – someone who has won more than almost anyone else – always reminds me that he loses far more than he wins.
The nature of the beast – though – don’t I know that losing IS a bitch!
Today is another day. Hoping for sunshine for both of us!

Bad luck – but it just goes to show that a team of stars doesnt always make a star team. Hope you slay them in the fall.

Stacy I was really pulling for you. I was hoping you would win this event this year. I cheer for you in all of your other events.
