it’s about time
Finally: the summer North American Bridge Championships. I’m excited like the little kid waiting first in line when the ice cream truck rolls into the neighborhood. I love the Wagar Women’s KO and finally, after more than two years of planning and studying and practicing and reading, I’m getting ready to play it with the Dream Team.
Judi and I are warming up in the Life Master Pairs today; we’re setting aside the forbidden gadget — 2D (weak in the majors) — to play a little Matchpoints and for the first time perhaps ever, I’m not feeling plagued by disruptive mental junk. I am more determined than ever to just enjoy myself and the experience: I’m in an amazing city with the husband of my dreams and I get to spend the next seven days sitting across from my dearest friend, who happens to be one of the world’s great players. No matter how we do in the pair game or even the team game, I’m already the luckiest bridge player in Washington.

Hey Red – you and Judi go get ‘em today!
You should wear that dress you had on last night. Your male opponents would miss 50% of the tricks to which they are entitled!

So Suzi, here’s one you may have already heard: Bramley-Compton started the LM Pairs against Katz-Nickell. “Well, isn’t this cozy,” said Compton.
