the penultimate practices

Monday night George and I played at Ron Helman’s northside game; Judi and I rocked the robots yesterday and the White Sox finally won a game; this afternoon Stan and I limped across the finish line in Deerfield with our Matchpoint basket a little over half full while JoAnna, Pamela, Mildred and Marinesa had mostly the better of Valerie, Disa, Benito and Lea.  Now George and I are heading back to the ballpark (Hi, Minnesota!), tomorrow the amusement park with the cherubs and then it’s off to Sacramento on Friday for what’ll probably be my last Team Trials.  A veritable whirlwind of contests.

I am determined to play hard and enjoy every minute of my experience, even as i recognize the zillion ways that can be easier said than done.  It’s easy to enjoy playing bridge when one plays well and wins.  Drop either of those conditions and the game can be reduced to simply a sentence.  What do you think? Is “play hard” easier than “enjoy every minute?”

Which sentences are true?

You have prepared to play your best, but a little good fortune does not hurt.

So may your finesses be off when you underbid and on when you overbid!
