A brutal week; absolutely brutal: the debate, the market, the round robin, the election, the Days of Awe. I’m glad it’s over. The market’s closed, the round robin’s come to an end. On to the Fall festivals.
And the Round of 16, for all but one of the American teams competing for Gold this week in Beijing. Couldn’t help but think of Ray Lee, bless his heart, when I saw both American sponsors top five in the Butler Rankings through Round 14, highest of all the American pairs. Nick Nickell, Ray: The man can play.
I appreciated that they broadcast The Pick on BBO; it was fun boomerang-texting the play-by-play from China back to Judi and Sylvia who were at dinner, scooping Mme. Captain. It was great to catch up with them a bit; times are tense over there but the American women are settled in, doing their jobs, ready for the next stage. I also (and especially) appreciate that they’re starting an hour earlier now — so look for Vugraph starting from 9pm Central (10p NY, 7p LA).
