off line

The cable went out yesterday afternoon: no TV, no Internet, no stacyjacobs.com. No market meltdown, no Presidential address, no New York Times, no Cayne versus Stars, no Facebook, no Twins, White Sox, Mets, Cubs.

I didn’t freak out right away, but by bedtime it was pretty grim. I’m expecting the technician late this afternoon, if I haven’t used all this spare (nervous) energy to pack up the place and put the house on the market.

You can’t imagine how I regret giving up my iPhone. Even as I await the Google phone (which I ordered yesterday before the lights went out) I am wishing very desperately that I’d resisted the pressure to dump it a while longer. I pinched it from the Big Girl’s room and re-installed Worspress; for today, at least, I’m trading back. It is too miserable sitting here in the dark.

As I sometimes mention to tellers at the bank, rumor has it there was once a time when people didn’t have computers or cell phones. Whether this is true or not, I am not sure, but it certainly is hard to imagine.

Reminds me of a few times when I haven’t had power in the house. Life virtually grinds to a halt!

Red; hoping your cable is up and running soon! Talk about one of life’s necessities … :)

About a year ago at work, we had two ladies who were taking old files and prepping them for scanning so we could get rid of them.

One day the lights went out. As I walked around the office, they were the only two still working!
