I had a great time last night at the Hall of Fame banquet. Judi managed the evening beautifully from trick one (holding the sign, “I Voted for Nick and Mike”) and poked a little fun at the USBF. Marc Jacobus presented Georgio DuBoin with the Sydney Lazard Sportsmanship Award before Nickell and Passell were introduced.
Nickell spoke beautifully, thanking his partners, teammates and family. Jennifer Passell stole the show when she introduced her dad, talking about how the whole bridge thing affected her as a child, how she’s taken to bridge recently and what it’s like to play with her Dad. Photos when I’m able.
Last night Grace asked me if I’m excited about this tournament and I gave a long and not very good answer that went something like “It’s a lot of pressure, feels awfully like work.” While that’s certainly all true, now that it’s finally starting, I am excited. I have worked hard and I’m ready to give it a whirl. Warming up with Sue and Jenny and Shannon rates to be lots of fun, we may not even be in the top bracket. Then the KO with Judi, Shannon and Jenny, JoAnna Stansby and Pamela Grannovetter - I am definitely excited about that.
