off to camp

Though I’m still not packed, it’s off to (bridge) camp this morning.  With any luck the Hilton Las Vegas will be better than Sassyfras Shack, and every bit as much fun.  I love the Summer Nationals — one need never play Matchpoints — and I love Las Vegas.  Food.  Shopping.

The fun starts right away with the Hall of Fame dinner; tomorrow Shannon and Jenny and Sue and I start three days of regional KOs; the Women’s Knockout starts Monday (opposite the Spingold) and then the National Swiss at the end of next week.  I’ve packed the computer and the camera, and I can usually count on Peg to share her bounty with me as well, so I’ll post when I’m able.  Photos from tonight’s festivities, for sure.

It’s the first tournament of the Open Cycle; George and Ralph are playing with Levin & Weinstein and the Egyptians, Sadek & El Ahmady.  It marks the first tournament for all sorts of new teams:  Nickell with Hamman-Zia; Welland with Glubock, Garner and Weinstein; O’Rourke with Duboin-Sementa; Hampson-Greco with Platnick-Diamond and Gitelman-Moss; Michael and Debbie Rosenberg with Sabine Auken and Daniela Von Arnim.  Place your bets.

Stan’s moved downtown to the Rehab. Institute of Chicago; that’s huge progress and I’m very proud of him.  He’s working hard and recovering so fast.  We had a wonderful heart-to-heart when I visited last week, reaffirmed our friendship and counted our many blessings.

Best of luck to Bob and Peggy, both playing in the Grand National Teams.  Hope you meet in the Finals.
