i always cry at weddings

Attended a lovely wedding yesterday, a dear friend of George’s married his high school sweetheart after a few decades apart. The day was gorgeous and the bride was lovely and my mascara left only a small shadow on my cheek. Today we’re off to Las Vegas for another wedding. This time I’m packing tissues and the heavy-duty waterproof makeup. Back on Tuesday in time to catch the cherubs diving in their first meet. Wow!

Watching Italy-Switzerland from Pau, the margin’s currently nine with a big board coming for Switzerland. I’m not quite sure why they aren’t naming the players in the Closed Room — HedyG directed me here where I discovered that Versace-Lauria will compare this set with Sementa-Angelini. I was surprised to see Fantoni-Nunes sitting out this championships; perhaps Mr. Angelini has mastered his fear of flying.

Because it doesn’t look easy to get from Rome to Beijing by train: think the Orient Express? Nope. Trans-Siberian Railway. Check this out: one departs Rome not later than Wednesday, September 24 in order to arrive in Beijing on October 3. Head out from Rome, turn right at the top of the boot and head east to Moscow.

Really, even if Mr. Angelini attaches a luxurious private Pullman and travels in serious style, it’s still going to take forever to get to the Mind Sports Olympiad. There are probably some great fall colors in Siberia, might be a gorgeous and life-changing trip. Of course if that’s what he’s interested in, he could car-pool with Adam Zmudsinski, who drove (faster than a bullet train) back and forth from Menton to Poland that summer of the first Open European Championships. Wonder how long it would take to Messeurs Angelini and Zmudsinski to drive … There’s no chance Italy’s planning to take along an alternate pair to Beijing, yanno, just in case … is there?
