one big happy family
It’s a cozy, family affair, this Open Trials. George, who needs to win four matches, got off to a rocky start in his Round of 16 match against Milgrim (Glenn Milgrim - Jeff Aker, Bob & Shane Blanchard, Barry Rigal - Glenn Eisenstein). I overheard Barry say to George last night “You know, the reason you won was the big set you and Ralph had.” Turns out he and Ralph sat down in the fourth set and totally rocked them. WTG Homeboy.
Meanwhile the cherubs and I are catching all the action from home. It’s pretty highly entertaining to watch the comings and goings of all the friends, friends of friends, acquaintances, exes, relatives, neighbors, and so on and so forth. The Trials really is the tournament that happens on BBO, and it is definitely it’s own kind of fun.
I can’t believe the team captained by Harry Tudor withdrew after only thirty boards. Perhaps they didn’t hear what happened to George way back when, at the NYC Nationals. I am appalled that the USBF allowed the w/d. How much more un-sporting can one be? I hear that the partnerships were squabbling, and that is indeed tough to handle. But giving one team a day and a half rest can’t be right. Really.
