50-3

Homeboys had a big, big set. I love an elegant auction. This was my favorite:

S AKJT872
H 4
D KQT6
C 5

George opened one (vulnerable) spade and after Brad Moss said pass, Ralph bid two (game forcing) clubs. Fred Gitleman came in with 2H and George jumped to 3S. Ralph picked 3NT which George, without further interruption by the opponents, removed to 4D. To this point the auction was identical in both rooms of the match. But where Curtis Cheek chose 4S in one room, Ralph took an entirely different view and bid 5NT (pick a slam). George chose 6S and Ralph said “Not that one” by bidding 6NT. His hand:

S 4
H KJ5
D A983
C AQT87
