one hand
While I’m working through reentry, take a look at the only hand I can still remember from Gatlinburg. Playing IMPS, first board in an evening session, I picked up:
:S: Kx
:H: Kx
:D: AQJT
:C: AKJT9
Partner opened 1 :S: and I managed not to fall out of my chair. Righty bid 3 :H: (weak) and I sat for a bit and came up with double. Not sure that’s best. Lefty passed and partner jumped to 4 :S: . Keycard was obvious, partner showed 2 with the Queen and mild surprise when I checked for the Diamond King. Partner said no, and I went into the tank. What would you do?

It probably makes 7N but I would bid 7S which is a bit safer.

You have to bid 7, if partner has the CQ you are cold, if partner has 8 spades you are cold, and if partner has something else you can try setting up clubs and falling back on a diamond finesse (or diamond ruffing finesse. If worst comes to worst you’re going to be on a hook and could easily be cold.

Of course you’re right. This was a frustrating board to push because I knew it was right to bid 7 but talked myself out of it when I didn’t think I could count more than twelve tricks — seven spades, two hearts, a diamond and two clubs.
Partner had

:H: Ax
