eating our way home
Grace and the wee ones arrived in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon, I couldn’t have been happier to see them. I made a day of eating absolutely everything I thought I wanted, which can be fun in a city like Vegas. Pastries for breakfast (note the intentional use of the plural), then a trio of fish tacos at the Border Grill for lunch — guacamole, chips, sangria. Then Nobu for dinner, flourless chocolate cake, wine, champagne, miso black cod, Kobe beef. A perfect birthday.
It’s a little twisted perhaps, but I really have planned this trip around what we’re going to eat. This morning it’s breakfast with George’s niece and her family, then we’ll pack up the rental SUV and hit In N Out burger on our way to LA. Dinners at Il Sole and Mr. Chow while we’re there, plus (of course, the whole reason for the trip) dumplings at Din Tai Fung in Arcadia. Looking forward to eating our way to Napa on Friday. I have some great memories of a place in Vancouver called Anducci’s pasta bar. I’m determined to go there, too.
Between Napa and British Columbia I’ve made no dinner plans. Got any recommendations?

I recommend Todd’s house of Toast and its amazing 755 varieties of toast. It is in Flam Bay, Oregon.
Travel safely and Happy Birthday.

If you want the best Chinese food in the San Gabriel Valley (as Arcadia is) drive 10 minutes east on the 10 freeway to Atlantic and go south about a mile. Ocean Star is on your right.
