women’s pairs
Can I just tell you how much fun it was to find out Judi and I were leading the Women’s Pairs yesterday after the first session? It didn’t last long; I got tired in the evening and didn’t play well, but for a little while we were on top. I was dreadfully nervous before we started, went to breakfast with George and couldn’t eat a thing. We started against Valerie Westheimer and Migry Zur Campanile and I went down on a hand I might have made and it wasn’t until about the eighth round that I started to relax.
Judi couldn’t have been nicer. We walked away from the table after every round, got coffee, checked scores, went over the things I missed. It’s easy to be a good partner when things are going well, but when I was hopeless at night she was every bit as calm and supportive. It can’t be easy to sit across the table from a partner who’s as unreliable as I was last night. Today I’ll do better.
How cute is this: when I came back to the room to change after the evening game, George had taped the leader board printout to the wall in our room. I love how he encourages me — in every nook and cranny of our lives together. Nobody’s luckier than I am, and I definitely know it.
