how do you play

I had a problem yesterday in the second round of the Monday-Tuesday KO; I held:

:S: K9xxx
:H: xxx
:D: ATxx
:C: x

Shannon opened 1 :D: , RHO passed, I bid 1 :S: . Lefty bid 2 :C: and Shannon bid 2NT. After righty passed, I figured my choices were 3 :D: and 3NT. Unless 3 :D: isn’t forcing. How do you play it?

I would bid 3nt, pard has extras, you
have dia fit and 5 card suit

    (1) I do not think that 3D is forcing, this 2N is not the same as a jump to 2N. With 18 or 19 and decent clubs I would bid 3N immediately.
    (2) It should show a pretty good club stopper(s) and only a doubleton spade since she did not make a support X.
I would think she has something like
    Jx, AJxx, Kxxx, AJ10
    (3) 3D is probably your best contract.

I’d call the director and get a 13th card.

I wouldn’t think 3 Diamonds would be forcing.

As for Shannon’s hand, I don’t think Bob’s example hand is a realistic possibility. It’s probably some 1-3-5-4 hand with about 16-17 high or the world’s worst 18 balanced.

I’m going to assume the missing card is a low Heart (that seems most likely.)

I’d bid 3 Diamonds happily if not vulnerable.

It’s a brutally close decision vulnerable, but with most people I’d bid 3 Diamonds unhappily and hope for the best, apology ready.

I wonder what the Director would say when you showed him/ her your hand? Hopefully, you’d caught him at an idle moment.

    Nick,

Jon had it exactly right, I’d left out the crucial x.

    Stacy,

You going to fork over the actual hand?

  8. Jonathan Ferguson Says:

Congrats on the Thurs/Fri win. :)
