after fifteen

Looks like there’ll be a new leader in the Bermuda Bowl qualifier after the fifteenth match. USA1 (George & company) got killed by Argentina, so Italy will sit atop the field. With only six more matches to play in the qualifying round, time’s running out. (The top eight teams move on to the knock-out phase, so we’re still in good shape.) USA2 is in some danger of not qualifying, I’m rooting hard for them to make a big move tomorrow and Saturday. Perhaps that’s not smart — Nickell’s always the biggest threat — but I don’t care. I like those guys and want to see them qualify.

I’m sure there will be plenty written about the disastrous set just played; analyzing the bridge is certainly not my expertise. What I can tell you is that George and Ralph sat playing Acquire in the hotel lobby and are taking the loss very well. They didn’t see any of the hands and probably won’t stand around discussing them any longer than necessary. We’re looking for consolation in the form of Peking Duck.

This morning’s photos are posted here.
