new york, new york
What a great city New York is. Intimidating as hell, but Shannon and I were up to it over the weekend. We stayed at one of the venerable old hotels, walked most places and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
We played a couple of duplicates at Kathy & Bjorn Fallenius’s Cavendish Club. It was the perfect place to play. Shannon played with Jenny, I played with Judi. Biggest thing I’ve been working on (other than remembering to preempt with 4 trumps and a weak hand) is my game face, and I guess it must be working. Judi said she didn’t think I was nervous. Ha. I got a few hands wrong both days, but for the most part there wasn’t much to do.
Kathy’s a friend, so it was great to finally see her club, meet her gorgeous mother, play in one of NYC’s fabled duplicates. It was terrific to see Justin, who played with my friend Sherry Jackson (we tied!). Saturday the place was full of people - saw Sam Lev, Mike Moss, Brian Glubock … Later, we stopped in at the fraternity house, where Kevin, Lindsay, Paul, Justin, DJ and a phantom John Hurd entertained Jenny, Shannon, Sherry & Stuart with drinks and a tour. Hated to bail out early, but I was flying out so early on Sunday.
This trip was about getting acquainted. Seeing the dynamic. Getting in some face time, if you will. Mission accomplished. On to Shanghai.
