this is the life
From Thoroughfare Lane, Lac Courte Oreilles, Hayward Wisconsin … thrilled to find my Sidekick works way up here. We drove up to Eau Claire on Thursday night (took us about 5 hours, with a stop for dinner), spent the night and came the last couple of hours on Friday. George, who never fails to amaze me, drove right to the rental cabin as if he’d been there a million times.
We went over to the camp and spent most of friday collecting The Gymnast. What a joy it is to have that child back. Yesterday we did all the typical weekend-at-the-cabin stuff — swam off the dock, played mini golf and several intense games of Battleship, built a crackling fire down by the lake and made s’mores. I had a terrific hour or two with the manuscript and read some more of the McPherson book. Will finish that today.
Today we’ve rented a boat and will take the girls out to see the lake from the water side, then tomorrow we’ll head home in the afternoon. Tuesday for laundry, Wednesday to Boston.
I’ve been wondering something: think about the book you’re currently reading (or have recently read). Who’s telling the story?
Next up (Tuesday): book review & trip photos.

i’m reading something easy called “the right attitude to rain” by alexander smith. the story is told in third person narrative and the teller knows what some of the people are thinking, perhaps what all are thinking, but only shares what he thinks we want to know. at times it’s disconcerting. i think i might feel closer to the characters if it was first person. at least, closer to one character.
