regional KOs, day 1
Everyone arrived safely, though tons of people were significantly delayed and have lost luggage as a result of terrible weather on Thursday. I mis-estimated our team’s masterpoint total — guessed 45,000. How I wish that were right, it’d have put us in the second bracket. Instead, we have about 53,000, and that’s clearly top bracket.
So we started against Carolyn Lynch (Carolyn & Dennis Dawson, Curtis Cheek & Joe Grue, Brad Moss & Fred Gitleman), managed to win a match that was close all the way. For our efforts, we found ourselves tossed into a 3-way with Tony Kasday and his Open Swiss-winning Icelandic boys and Jimmy Cayne (Jimmy & Michael Seamon, Alfredo Versace & Lorenzo Lauria & Claudio Nunes). Yummy. We were tied with Cayne and down 9 to Kasday at the half, couldn’t quite pull it out.
Man, those were some good teams in that event yesterday. Luckily, six of them are still in it today (very strange, the money rounds are all 3-ways, including the final). We’ll start again (and face Lynch in the first round, that’s my sort of luck) this afternoon. I was amused to see the Forbes list so adequately represented:
I didn’t see another favorite list-maker, #2 Warren Edward Buffett playing in our section.
I should be reading my notes, but instead I’m looking up the richest bridge players. Oy vey.
