the quietest
Shannon and I drove down to Nashville last night, arrived a few minutes after the folks who flew from Chicago — Grand National Teams kicks off this afternoon, so there were quite a few friends and acquaintances on that flight. It rained most of the way from Chicago; we stopped in Louisville and had dinner at Proof, the restaurant at Hotel 21C. Still recommend it very highly.
This small moment right before the tournament starts is exceedingly quiet — my head’s not swimming with bridge hands or team lineups, there’s no real room to drag out the manuscript in progress (though I’m thinking seriously about doing just that since I’m essentially free until Friday at 1:00), I’m not the sort to turn on the TV. George is finally sleeping again (never sleep well the first night in a new bed) … These are the moments I like best. My story list is quite a bit longer than it has been for a very long time: the bridge story, the adoption mystery, the telephone psycho. I’m planning to tie them together — have them all be problems only the Lee team can solve. I am anxious to get back to work.
