looking ahead
Yesterday was a crazy up and down kind of day; we started out really strong in our first two matches. We hated to break the momentum, but the team decided it was best for Chris and Ginny to come in for our third match (against Baker). They’re ahead by about 30. Then we sat down to play against Judi and Sylvia. I was terrible, but Peggy and Betty Ann were great and it feels like a massive victory to be ahead by 1. It looked like we would sit out against Sulgrove, but that changed at the last second and it was disastrous for us. We’re down 40 to a very tough group there. Lots of tension in the Ora Lourie match, one table ran long and both teams were issued slow-play warnings. Up 9 in that match. Down about 10 in the last match (Connie Goldberg).
Today I’ll play the 3rd (Baker), 6th (Lourie) and 7th (Goldberg) matches. Several friends on the Baker team, don’t care to play against any of them. We’ve lost to them several times. Oh, I’ve never played the second half in a team game. Back to being nervous, but that’s not all bad — I play pretty well when I’m nervous. Playing the last two matches feels like a big responsibility.
Hanging around at home this morning, won’t go over to the playing site much before the third match starts. Planning to work out, read the notes and take a nap. Big kid heading out on a Girl Scout camping thing, little kid’s going to the pool where she’s discovered the thrill of the high dive. Tomorrow is completely up in the air — we’ll either play bridge or take the girls to Six Flags. Shannon loves the rides; I most certainly do not. If we play Sunday, we’ll play Monday as well, until the evening when we’re back at US Cellular Field for the game of the week: Roger Clemens takes the mound for the Yankees against the struggling former World Champs. Perhaps we’ll bring each other some luck, the White Sox and me. ![]()
