the cavendish: friday
A little under the weather this morning, I skipped the first session of the pair game, but caught the first five or six rounds of the second set. Several grand slams (making and not), which makes for exciting kibitzing. The young Italians (Sementa and Madala), doing a lot of pacing, were leading after the first set; I’m guessing they haven’t given up much (if any) ground. It’s just a guess, don’t hold me to it.
The auction last night was lots of fun, George did a great job; when everything was said and done they’d raised about $1.1 million. (My tiny fraction of that is on Crystal Henner-Welland playing with Michael Rosenberg.) It’s always fun for me to watch George in his role as auctioneer; it’s even more fun to try and bid on items (or pairs, in this case) — never fails to get him laughing. Peggy Kaplan took some great photos at the auction last night, you can find them here.

It’s difficult to tell who is more talented: George with his amazing auctioneer skills…. or Stacy, doing a damned good imitation of a sexy movie star.
If you haven’t seen Geo do his auction action - or Stacy in her slinky gold number - then you are truly missing two somethings!

The photos really are the story. Peg, send me some and I’ll post them?
