story list
Story ideas line up like baseball players: the bridge-tournament story is at bat, young adult thriller on deck. Then the dark, scary story bats third, the position of power. Then a trio of lighter bridge/murder mystery sorts of things hit fourth, fifth and sixth. At the bottom of the order are the Story Studio stories, revisions of short stories I’ve toyed with before.
It seems like the sort of thing I ought to be able to plan and execute — a balanced, winning lineup. What I expect is that I’ll wrap this story and put it on the shelf in order to knock off the YA adventure which has captured a giant piece of my imagination. But these first two are really just practice for the big, dark, scary story. The designated hitter. The one I expect to do really well. Why not just skip ahead to that one? I need the practice. I’m not good enough, yet, to write that story.
