finally!
When I was turning out the lights and promising to return with baseball season (way back in early February!) it sounded like I’d be gone so long. Since that time, I’ve accomplished some of what I intended, lots I never even considered and one or two complete surprises, not the least of which is how much I missed blogging. Well, writing. Reading. All of it, really.
Winter’s end: dark, difficult, slow. I’m really proud of my little Jacobs clan for hanging together through the big snows, the early mornings, the tedious shoveling and scraping. We mostly avoided illnesses and accidents and for that I am especially grateful. Now spring rushes in, with that heavy, damp cold nobody seems to mind. The mud, the soaking newspaper, the perpetually cold feet all of which are somehow full of mischief and delight and promise. Already we can imagine those same newspapers, deep-fried yellow on some distant hot morning in July.
The White Sox open tomorrow, then Seders I and II, then a full-scale sprint to next Sunday, when Shannon and I begin preparing in earnest for the Team Trials.
